Trentham Activities & Attractions

Trentham... With its broad, leafy lanes and unhurried ambience, Trentham exudes tranquillity and elegant charm and is an attraction all in its own right. Step off the Main Street and be dazzled by the wonders of the natural environment.

Natural Attractions

This is the gateway to the flora, fauna and topography of the Wombat Forest.

Surrounded on three sides by the majestic tall timbers and lush ferns of the Wombat Forest, Trentham is home to Victoria’s highest single drop waterfall – a 32-metre drop over basalt columns. The Falls reserve protects one of the best remnants of original vegetation in the area, with stands of manna gum, messmate, stringybark and narrow-leaved peppermint.

The 75,000-hectare Wombat State Forest offers many activities including camping, bushwalking, mountain-bike riding, horse riding, four-wheel-driving and trailbike riding. The rugged Lerderderg Gorge runs north-South through the forest area, and there are many walking trails, including the heritage trail along the Lerderderg River. The network of fire tracks is ideal for bicycles, with some challenging technical sections and single-track for the more adventurous.

The picturesque Quarry Street Reserve and Lake is a popular venue for barbecues and picnics. There are undercover gas barbecues, picnic facilities and toilets at the reserve and there is enough space even for large groups. The award-winning Lyonville Mineral Springs are approximately ten minutes from town on the road to Daylesford and visitors can sample the refreshing mineral water while having a picnic or barbecue in the picturesque reserve.

Trentham and the surrounding area is green thumb heaven. There are many beautiful native and European gardens to admire.

If you fancy a round of golf, the Trentham Golf Club is located within walking distance from the town centre. To the casual golfer, this is as courses should be - welcoming, quiet, casual, inexpensive and simply beautiful all year, one of country Victoria’s loveliest courses.

The Domino Trail is an easy 8km walk or bike ride following the old railway line from the Trentham heritage listed railway station (no longer in use) into the Wombat Forest, does a loop in the forest and returns to the station. As an alternative many walkers or bike riders continue on to Lyonville along the old railway route.

For the more adventurous you can take a horse riding tour through the lush trails of the Wombat Forest.

Trentham Falls
Trentham Falls Trentham Falls is a must see for visitors to the region. The tranquil falls, set in the protected original native vegetation reserve, is as pretty as a picture. The falls are some thirty two meters high flowing on basalt. There is plenty of room for a picnic, BBQ facilities, toilets and fireplaces at the Falls.
